Film and Social Activism : A natural combination
Paul and I got to see a powerful movie last year. Made in L.A. follows three Latina immigrants working in Los Angeles sweatshops as they embark on an odyssey to win basic labor protections from a trendy clothing retailer. No matter what your personal position on immigration is, this film is a must see. It not only chronicles three years in the lives of the three women but boldly looks at our country’s immigration history.
And because the filmmakers personally believe EVERY person can make a difference, between April 15th and May 31st national organizations, grassroots groups, faith-based congregations and individuals across the country will come together in a nationwide effort to share “Made in L.A.” and put a human face on the issues of immigration, immigrant workers’ rights, and humane immigration reform. Paul and I are committed to attending several in the LA area. Let us know if you’d like us to show up at yours and we’ll feature you at the BFC.
